The Lord's Bounty

I have a friend I have known for years, but happens to be in our new ward... who made a comment a few months ago about gardening. She started her first one ever this year... it is small. She calls it her obedience garden. I love the idea of calling it an obedience garden. She is only doing it since she should, although she said she doesn't know what she is doing. Remind anyone of building a giant boat a loooooong time ago?

So, in that spirit, here are some pictures of my obedience garden. Saturday night our dinner consisted of freshly picked beets, corn and carrots. The meat dish was provided by our mighty hunter, Robbie! As we sat as a family eating our dinner, Makenzie reflected on what a good feeling it is to eat something after doing all of the work to put it on the table.

Now, I feel like this obedience garden is truly a blessing from our Heavenly Father. I HATE bugs, so being in the garden is quite disconcerting for me... but I can't teach the girls to be that way, right? So I have to pretend I am fine. If they want to develop a horrific fear of bugs on their own, more power to them! So the fact the garden is thriving so well is exciting! The girls are in charge of "harvesting" the produce. They fill baskets with tiny tomatoes. They pick beets and take them to the neighbors. In fact, they took a basket of tomatoes down the street to a friend the other day, and the lady offered them $1. They were soooooo excited! (Thank you April!) Ready to see it?!

I know... it's tiny... and crammed! But seeing that I can do it, we will make it bigger next year! We have corn in back, then beets that you cannot see... two tomato plants, 2 bell pepper plants and loads of carrots!

Doesn't obedience feel great!? Good for you guys, and how wonderful that Makenzie recognizes that good feeling as well! More power to you with the bugs....

We have been planning to do a garden for almost four years now...I think next year really is going to be the year, as I am running out of excuses not to do it. I can't wait to blog about my own garden too! It's an adventure, isn't it?!
