Canon City

We recently went to Royal Gorge for a family get-a-way. What an amazing place! God sure has an eye for beauty. We were amazed at how deep this gorge was, and how breath-taking. The suspension bridge was fun... and scary! More scary when cars drove past us, causing the bridge to shake more. It's quite the long walk when getting dizzy going across!
I did get brave enough to look over the edge of the bridge. I think that I would have enjoyed it more if I weren't afraid that Will would try to jump over the edge. On the way across the first time, he stayed in the stroller, but on the way back he wanted out really bad, then ran like crazy all over the swaying bridge. Ack!
On the far side of the bridge, they have a little petting zoo with various types of goats, a yak, some llamas. The kids had fun petting the kids. One fiesty little fella thought it was fun to practice butting Makenzie. He was tiny, so it was more amusing than scary.
They also have burro rides for kids. It was fun watching them ride the trail. So proud and happy! Abby was the lucky first rider!
Willie was next. He was absolutely adorable! (They all were.) He wasn't sure what to think every few minutes and would lean to Robbie like he wanted to get off. But he did enjoy himself.

I think this was probably Makenzie's favorite part of Royal Gorge. She loves riding horses (and now burros.)I think this was Robbie's favorite part of the park. They have trophy elk in there! They were amazing. There was also a white buffalo! The girls were misbehaving, so the park security had to put them in the clinker ;-) They are supposed to have sad faces, but they were having too much fun in this old western town.We asked for a place to sit while waiting to go on the horse drawn carriage ride! This was such a fun trip. The people were all dressed in old west clothes. The guy driving the carriage was about 92 and had some great stories about the area... I think they were great. I couldn't hear the complete stories because the carriage was extremely noisy...They also have a little train to ride, which we took a few times. There is also an incline train that took us to the bottom of the gorge. WOW! Amazing view, fun ride. Abby was absolutely terrified to go on the train. I didn't think we were going to be able to go on it... but at the last minute, she changed her mind... and it is now her favorite thing to do. She wants to go back again to go on the incline!

i got some very similar pictures on our trip! That gorge is amazing! I'm glad your kids had so much fun--the petting zoo wasn't open when we went, but you'll have to check my blog in the next week or so to find out why :)

those elk are amazing, too!

Yes, the gorge is amazing; I was there a number of years ago, but all it did was fuel my fear of heights. I am feeling dizzy just looking at your pictures! Glad you all enjoyed the day.

I love the royal gorge! It really is so beautiful :) The incline train scares me to death, although I was brave enough to ride it. Probably wont ride it again, though!
